NHRC calls for a report from Assam Government on riots: Also decides to send its own team to study relief and rehabilitation measures

New Delhi, August 1st, 2012

The National Human Rights Commission today issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of Assam calling for a detailed report on the riots in and around Kokrajhar district of Assam within three weeks. He has been specifically asked to inform about the arrangements made for relief and rehabilitation of the affected people and the financial assistance given to the victims.

The Commission has also decided to send its own team to study the arrangements made by the State Government for rehabilitation of persons affected by riots. The team has been given four weeks time to submit report to the Commission.

Therefore it is a kind request please take appropriate action at earliest and ensure the justice, security and compensation to the victim.

  1. NHRC should send its team to conduct a inquiry 
  2. To provide compensation  to the deceased family
  3. To provide psycho - social support to the survivors in relief camp through testimonial therapy. If NHRC is willing PVCHR will send the team of therapists from our NATT member organization Barak Human Rights Protection Committee (BHRPC), Silchar, Assam
  4. To provide all essential amenities to the survivors in relief camp.
